“The history of the medical center turned out great!! It is, and will continue to be a real addition to the archives of Lake City’s history.” – Jim and Jane Anthony
About the book project. . .
Production of Medicine in the Mountains began in 2016 with its purpose being to record the facts, photos, and stories of a history of the Lake City Area Medical Center, and health care delivery in Lake City in general. The facts and photos existed in a variety of places, but unless recorded, the stories are slowly lost as memories fade and people are no longer with us. The project was funded in large part from a grant from the Nichols Foundation. Additional funding came from private donations. Grant Houston, noted historian and owner of the Silver World, provided access to newspaper archives which provided a great deal of the facts and photos. The Endowment engaged a team from Welborn & Associates for the research, interviews, writing, design, and production.
